France with Vero
My friend Véronique is a tour guide based in Paris. When she is not leading tours for Rick Steves' Europe or organizing private ones, she strolls the lesser-known areas of Paris and the French provinces and publishes those virtual tours on Youtube. Delightful, informative videos that will make you dream of France and help you prepare your next trip.
An insider's weekly guide to the City of Light published by experienced journalists and editors. Their articles are consistently interesting and well-written and display a healthy combination of appreciation and "esprit critique."
Every Sunday morning, I time-travel with John d'Orbigny to discover the Paris of my childhood (or my grandparents'...) Each week, John covers an event, a year, or a topic. Incredibly rich iconography, rarely seen photos, fascinating (and witty) commentary: it may be the most interesting Facebook page I follow.
A great site choke-full of information to discover a less traveled Paris. Historical anecdotes, visit suggestions, restaurant recommendations... One of my favorite resources.
France On Your Own
Since 1997, my friend Diane has published an extremely well-researched newsletter to help independent travelers plan their trips to France. There is useful information about Paris but her detailed exploration of the French départements and cities is what I enjoy the most. Subscribe to her free quarterly newsletter and consult the archives for past issues.
A French Frye in Paris
Corey Frye is a New York expat in Paris and a full-time tour guide. Every week, he shoots a half-hour video in Paris where he walks the streets of a particular neighborhood and shares architectural details, historical anecdotes, and cultural insights. These fantastic walking tours are free: you can watch them live or in replay on his Youtube channel.
